Great Lakes anglers can now take advantage of the attraction this bait fish provides to walleye and smallmouth bass. | | | How to Rig the Goby Jighead/Body Combination 1. Turn Goby body upside down and center hook point with the front of the soft-plastic body. 2. Carefully thread the body along the hook’s shank. 3. Pull the hook point through top of bait - note target “gap” in fin. 4. Push body flush with the back of the jighead. | |
| | | | Tubenose Goby (Proterorhinus marmoratus) Round Goby (Neogobius melanostomus) The Tubenose and Round Goby are both non-native bait fish which were accidently introduced into the Great Lakes in the late 1980s. Populations of this fish started to grow rapidly in the 1990s in the St. Clair River and Lake Michigan. Today they can be found from the Detroit River to western Lake Erie and Duluth Superior Harbor in the Great Lakes. Typically a bottom feeder and rarely exceeding four inches in length, the Goby has become a favorite prey for larger native sport fish such as walleye and smallmouth bass. |

 | | | Drop Shotting the Great Lakes Goby The drop shot’n technique is effective but made better with the great lakes gobyGreat Lakes Goby and the new StandOUT hook. The hook offers a lever action that entices more strikes. Use the Mojo® Pineapple Drop Shot weight on the bottom of the rig or even a standard Texas rig Tube on the bottom for a double presentation. Tip: use a slow drop instead of a lift as you work the rig. Don’t set the hook, just a slow sweep of the rod does the trick.
